January 2020 Featured Plant: Yellow jewelweed

A native, annual plant of moist woods and floodplains, yellow jewelweed takes its name from the glint of sun on its shiny flowers and the beads of water that collect on its leaves. Blooming from July into September, this species provides a source of nectar and pollen for hummingbirds and bees. Its watery sap is reputed to treat rashes caused by poison ivy and stinging nettle.
